An Garda Síochána in Mayo are looking for nominations for the Mayo Garda Youth Awards 2024, set to take place later this year.

Proudly sponsored by Breaffy House Resort, the awards celebrates outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 years.

As an organisation, An Garda Síochána aims to recognise the good work which has, and continues to be, done by young people who by their presence have made their communities better places to live.

The past number of years have presented unprecedented challenges for communities, and awards such as this recognise the sacrifices made by young people, as they have continued to contribute to their communities on a daily basis.

There are four categories being awarded:

The individual award celebrates someone who has made a positive contribution to their community, making it a better place to live, while the group award will be given to groups of two or more making this difference.

The special achievement award recognises those who overcame difficult circumstances, defied the odds, and whose commitment deserves recognition. Finally, the community safety award will be presented to one who, through a Crime Prevention or safety initiative/innovation, made their community a safer place to live.

Application forms are available by emailing MayoGardaYouthAwards@garda.ie and can be completed electronically and forwarded to the above email address.

Alternatively forms can be downloaded and posted to Mayo Garda Youth Awards, Ballina Garda Station, Lord Edward Street, Ballina, Co. Mayo, F26 TR62.

The closing date for nominations is 5:00pm, Friday, June 21.
