Popular Balla Classic Car Show returns in aid of two local charities

Peter Monaghan (event organiser) presents a prize to James Hughes for his winning classic Ford Fiesta at last year’s event.

THE hugely popular Balla Classic & Vintage Car Show is back for its fourth year-in-a-row, promising to be bigger and better than ever with over 150 vehicles attending.

The event, taking place on Sunday, May 12 at Balla Mart with proceeds on the day being donated to a number of local charities including Balla Sensory Garden for Autism and Castlebar Order of Malta.

The show is an event for the whole family to enjoy, with a top range of classic, vintage and super cars on show, along with tractors, bikes and more.

There will also be bouncy castles and more kiddies entertainment, an auto jumble, clothes and toy stalls, food vans and more.

“We are really looking forward to making this our best event yet,” the organisers said. “This really is a day for the whole family and we have some really worthy charity partners this year such as the Order Of Malta in Castlebar and Balla Sensory Garden for Autism.
“Both charities are doing incredible work in their communities and need all the help they can get.

“We are also extremely grateful to Michael Nolan of Balla Mart and Aurivo for allowing the use of this fantastic facility once again. The grounds make this show ideally suited to people of all abilities and we will be providing disabled toilets and assisted parking onsite.

“Along with the kids, anyone in this situation is allowed in for free to enjoy the day and we want to encourage everyone to come along.”

Massive raffle

There will also be a massive raffle on the day, with some fantastic prizes including a full mechanics tool chest worth over €800, sponsored by Genfitt, Kiltimagh. A wheelbarrow ‘hamper’ worth over €250, and a beauty products hamper donated by Christina Loftus, Balla.
“We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers on the day who help out every time we have an event, and the sponsors, because without them it would not go ahead.”

In 2023, over 130 cars, 70 tractors, 20 motorbikes, vintage lorries and more attended the day and this year’s event is expected to succeed that.
There will judging of the vehicles on the day across various categories, with a special prize for the Best Presented Land Rover, as well as others.

The Show opens to the public at 11am and runs through to 4.30pm. The grounds open at 7am for exhibitors.
