The MEP canvassed the area this past weekend
Local MEP for Midlands-North West Maria Walsh toured South Mayo this past weekend for a day of meeting local businesses and constituents.
The sitting MEP is running for re-election in the European elections on June 7.
Familiar territory for the Shrule native, the canvassing kicked off in Claremorris where she was joined by local Councillor, Tom Connolly, to speak with business owners and locals doing their Saturday morning shopping.
Next on the agenda was a visit to Ballinrobe along with Councillor Michael Burke, where the pair visited shops and restaurants, including the popular McHugh’s café.

The afternoon included a visit to Cong, where Ms Walsh met with tourists enjoying the area, before attending the launch of Corrib Mask Search and Rescue’s new lifeboats.
The event on the shore of Lough Corrib was well attended, with newly appointed Minister Alan Dillon in attendance.
Following a drive to Ballyhaunis, the former Rose of Tralee met with sitting Councillor John Cribbin, Local Election Candidate Alma Gallagher, and local Fine Gael members.

After meeting with members of the Knock Indian Malayali Association, who were celebrating Easter in the local community hall, the group visited businesses including Philips Butchers, Eddie Murphy’s menswear, and Curley’s pharmacy.
The feedback received on the day was that business is doing well in the town, with some raising the issues around planning delays for the community.
The final stop of the day was Nevin's Newfield Inn for the launch of Pat Chambers’ local election campaign. The event saw Mr Chambers’ friends and family out in force to support his bid for Mayo County Council.
