Deputy Ring welcomed the news
Michael Ring TD has confirmed €77,560 in funding in total has been allocated to nine Mayo Agricultural Shows for 2024.
Deputy Michael Ring said he is ‘very pleased’ that the Government has ‘once again allocated funding to support our Agricultural Shows here in Mayo’.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today announced the one million euro investment in support of 122 Agricultural Shows nationwide.
“This funding will assist each committee in preparing for the upcoming Show Season, which takes place over the summer months” said Deputy Ring.
He called the shows ‘a very important part of our rural calendars’ which are enjoyed by all. He also acknowledged the ‘huge economic benefits’ the shows bring to an area.
“The shows play a vital role in community life and raise awareness of the important role agriculture plays in our society.
“They are a wonderful opportunity for producers to showcase their products and have become a key date in the calendar for the farming community” continued Deputy Ring.
The Department of Rural and Community Development will work alongside the Irish Shows Association (ISA) to administer the scheme this year.
“These shows would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of volunteers, committees, sponsors, local organisations and local businesses. I would encourage people to come out and support their local shows where possible” concluded Deputy Michael Ring.
