Ireland

Mayo was seven percent of participants favourite accent

Mayo has made the list of Ireland’s top six accents.

The western county was deemed the fourth most loved accent in the country.

The survey by Alt Index Ireland found that seven percent of participants named the Mayo accent as their favourite in Ireland.

The survey came after language learning app Duolingo saw a 12.3 percent increase in website traffic last month, showcasing the growing interest and engagement for learning new languages online in both Ireland and abroad.

The Dublin accent received the most-love with nearly one in three participants calling it their favourite, with the capital closely followed by Donegal and Cork.

Westmeath and Limerick failed to strike a chord, coming in as participants least favourite accent in the Emerald Isle.

See below the top six most-loved accents in Ireland:

Dublin accent 35 percent.

Donegal accent 28 percent.

Cork accent 21 percent.

Mayo accent 7 percent.

Westmeath accent (midlands) 6 percent.

Limerick accent 3 percent.
