Mayo hotel makes list of top 12 most romantic places in Ireland

The renowned 5 star castle is no stranger to awards and praise, and for good reason

Ashford Castle

Ashford Castle came in at number four on the list

Ashford Castle in Cong, Co Mayo, has been listed by Betfair Casino as the fourth most romantic place in the country.

No stranger to charming accolades, the 800-year-old Cong castle obtained their fifth Forbes five-star ranking earlier in the month.

Situated on the picturesque shores of Lough Corrib, between its old-money elegance, breathtaking views and decadent guest suites, it’s no surprise that the hotel made the list.

Perhaps something a bit different to the other mentions on Betfair Casino's list, a stroll around Ashford Castle and its spectacular 300-acre estate provides everything you could want from a romantic day out in Ireland’s countryside.

The five-star offers plenty of romance, be it a weekend getaway with spa treatments and top class meals, or, oftentimes, being a dream wedding venue to numerous couples. Ashford pulls out all the stops for any couple's big day, whether it's a small gathering or a big soirée, the close-knit team of wedding experts work closely to host magnificent weddings.

The list was put together by measuring the popularity of each destination by a unique index score, based on the number of hashtags and views each location has racked up on Instagram, as well as Trip Advisor rankings - with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking.

Dingle Peninsula in Co Kerry scored first place in the list.
