Brand-new Mayo filmed Netflix romcom starring Lindsay Lohan is set to be released on Netflix next month.
The Parent-Trap actress was seen filming ‘Irish Wish’ around Mayo two-years-ago, and now, the finished product is on its way.
The sight of the Hollywood star had locals chatting all over Westport, many of whom tried to get a glimpse of the 37-year-old.
Nearly 200 crew members were on hand for three days in October 2022, with shooting mostly taking place around the Westport town’s famous Octagon.
The producer of ‘Irish Wish’ is Irish-American Michael Damien Weir, a distant cousin of the then Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Seamus Weir.
Filming was due to take place in Dublin and Wicklow, but after chaos in Dublin Airport, the crew had to find alternative options. Fortunately, Cllr Weir was on hand to influence his cousin.
Mr Weir, at the time, said ‘it was a battle’ to get them out of Wicklow and to the West, however, he worked with Mayo County Council and persuaded the crew to shoot in Mayo.
He said they were ‘really impressed’ with the town of Westport and ‘would love to come back again’.
New York-born Lohan, who has Irish roots tracing back to Cork and Galway, has spoken fondly of her time in Ireland, telling Tudum ‘Ireland’s so beautiful’.
“I’d never been, [but] my grandfather’s from there... The people are so nice, and the Guinness pies were amazing,” she said.
In her second collaboration with the streaming service, Lohan plays the lead role of Maddie Kelly, a shy girl who has to put her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at the Westport wedding of her best friend, and the love of her life.
It follows Maddie as she makes a wish for true love in the days leading up to the wedding, unwittingly waking up as the bride-to-be.
Award-winning Lohan is joined by other reputable cast members including Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth Tan, and Ayesha Curry.
‘Irish Wish’ streams on Netflix from March 15, just in time for St Patrick’s Day.
