AN album launch by Achill musician Seán Lynch has raised over €30,000 for three very worthy charities.
The launch of the 10-track album ‘Chongie Road’, which place at the Wavecrest Hotel, Dooagh, in September has raised €30,164.63 for St John’s Ward, Crumlin, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, and local charity, Gearóid’s Smile.
The event was an immersive musical experience, featuring captivating live performances by local Uileann Piper, Seán Lynch, and special visiting guests including Eric de Buitléir, Joseph McNulty and Tony Byrne, as well as some of Achill’s most talented musicians including The Achill Lads, Bríd McLoughlin, and Aoife Fadian.
The night was filled with foot-tapping tunes, beautiful ballads, and an atmosphere that celebrated the vibrant musical culture of the island. The crowd was also in a jubilant mood having watched Ireland beat South Africa in the Rugby World Cup game which was shown live on the big screen.
September, being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, served as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by young cancer patients and their families. The album launch marked the beginning of a major fundraising initiative that aimed to make a meaningful impact in the lives of these children and their caregivers.
The online fundraising drive concluded recently, raising a final amount of €30,164.63. The prize draw for the fundraiser took place live on Facebook in Lourdie’s, Dooagh on the October Bank Holiday weekend and the lucky prize winners included David Harrison, Paul McLoughlin, Anne Donaghy, and Rosie O'Boyle.
The organisers express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped out with this major fundraising drive and to all who purchased tickets and donated prizes. Your generosity has made a world of difference.
