Taoiseach to visit Mayo on Thursday

AN Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, will pay a visit to Mayo on Thursday next, August 10.

The Taoiseach’s visit has been organised on the back of an invitation from MEP Maria Walsh, who hails from Shrule. 

The Fine Gael leader will accompany her to meet with community groups and organisations across rural communities in the west. MEP Walsh and An Taoiseach will be joined by local councillors from South Mayo and North Galway throughout the day. 

Taoiseach Varadkar last officially visited Mayo for the official opening of the Westport to Turlough N5 dual carriageway. 

The preliminary schedule for the Taoiseach's visit will see him visit Ballinrobe at 12 noon, when he will arrive at The Valkenburg Hotel on the town's Main Street. He will meet with the Town Hall committee, who recently benefited from a €4.6 million funding allocation from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) scheme.

Accompanied by local Fine Gael representatives, they will walk main street in the town, meeting with local businesses, sports clubs and community groups.

At 1.15pm, MEP Walsh and An Taoiseach will arrive at Glencorrib Church. There, they will meet with the Parish Priest, representatives from Sunny Days Community Childcare, the local historical society, the U-14 LGFA Shrule/Glencorrib team, parents and students from local schools in area, the Shrule Development Group, South West Mayo Development Company, the local vintage group, and others. 

This will be followed by visits to Caherlistrane and Headford, where he will host a public meeting at the Angler's Rest Hotel entitled 'The Rural Roadmap to 2030'.

The meeting will be an opportunity for community groups and businesses to share their vision on future developments in their communities and across rural Ireland.

The event will focus on Embracing our Rural Communities, and will feature a Q&A with An Taoiseach, MEP Walsh, and local councillors.

Community groups, businesses and individuals from across Mayo and Galway are invited to attend.
