‘Covies’ and Westport Chamber receive arts award; No injuries after Claremorris house fire; Improvement works for Garda stations in East Mayo
Business arts award for Westport Chamber and ‘Covies’ drama
‘Covies’, the online soap drama which was pioneered earlier this year by Westport Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Westport-based film maker, Len Collin, has scooped a prestigious award.
The venture has been chosen as the winner of ‘Best Use of Creativity by a business’ in the Allianz Business to Arts Awards, which are being presented for the 19th time. This year’s awards will be presented at a winners lunch in IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, on Monday, 24 May.
View Larger Map House extensively damaged after fire in Claremorris
A house on Mount Street in Claremorris was extensively damaged after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning. The emergency services were alerted by a passerby who noticed smoke coming from the terraced house at 1.30am. Gardaí and a fire brigade arrived at the scene and houses on either side of the fire were evacuated. No one was injured in the incident and gardaí have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
East Mayo Garda facilities to be upgraded
Four Garda stations in the Swinford Garda District are due to receive some much needed upgrading, at a cost of some €600,000. Ballyhaunis Garda Station is to be completely refurbished while their will be improvement works also at the Foxford and Swinford Stations. A purpose built Immigration Booth will also be provided at the arrival hall at Ireland West Airport Knock.
