Charlestown man is appointed ambassador to Argentina

A Charlestown native has been named as Ireland’s new ambassador to Argentina.
Mr James McIntyre from Lowpark, Charlestown was one of 30 new ambassadorial nominations approved by Taoiseach Brian Cowen and his cabinet at a meeting yesterday afternoon. All of the nominees are subject to formal approval by the host governments, although there is normally no difficulty in this regard.


Prestigious award for Turlough’s Country Life museum

The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, in Turlough, Castlebar has received a prestigious award for the quality of its education service. The Sandford Award was presented to Ms Deirdre Power, the Museum’s Education and Outreach Officer, by the Duke of Wessex at a ceremony in Windsor Castle. This is the second time that the Museum of Country Life has received a Sandford Award – it first received the award in 2004.  The award lasts for five years.??


Mayo face former manager in under 21 championship

Former Mayo senior manager Mickey Moran will come face-to-face with some old friends this evening for the first time in over three years as his Leitrim U-21 team prepare to welcome Mayo to Cloone for the opening game in the 2010 Connacht championship.
Moran, who led Mayo to an All-Ireland senior final appearance in 2006, will be hoping to upset the odds and beat the defending champions (who have won the last four provincial titles) in the first Connacht inter-county championship match ever played under floodlights.
