Gardaí investigating serious assault on youth in Ballina

Gardaí in Ballina are today investigating a serious assault which occurred in the north Mayo capital in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The assault took place at 2.30am on O’Rahilly Street when a teenage male was assaulted by another male.
The victim was taken to Mayo General Hospital and is still in the intensive care unit. The Gardaí have arrested a man in relation to the incident and he is due to appear at tomorrow’s sitting of Ballina District Court.


Mayo showjumper Duffy wins French Grand Prix

Mayo showjumper Alex Duffy (20) triumphed in yesterday Grand Prix at the French show in Villeneuve-Loubet when he took the €6,250 first prize on the Edenrock Investments-owned stallion 'Tampa'.
Duffy, who jumped for Ireland's Nations' Cup team in Norway last year, went clear in both rounds, with Swiss runner-up Philipp Zuger well over a second behind on time with 'Liatos II".


Peader Gardiner ruled out of Mayo action for two months

Mayo defender Peadar Gardiner is unlikely to play competitive football for the county again before next summer’s Connacht Championship match against Sligo.
The Crossmolina wing-back broke a bone in his arm during the first half of last Sunday’s National League match against Dublin. He underwent surgery in Castlebar later that evening and has been told that he will out of action for at least ‘six to eight weeks’. That means Gardiner is out of Mayo’s remaining NFL games.
