N26 Ballina to Bohola refused planning permission; Westport Tidy Towns prepare for 2010; St Mary’s win Schools Junior Girls Connacht Final
Shock in Ballina as planning permission for N26 is refused
The people of Ballina are today up in arms after it has been revealed that the much anticipated second phase of the N26 road, which was due to link the town with the main road artery in the county, will not now go ahead. An Bord PleanΡla have refused permission for the road development from Ballina to Bohola on environmental grounds. Cllr Jarlath Munnelly, chairman of the Roads and Transportation SPC of Mayo County Council, said that the news had come as a surprise and was an ‘enormous setback for the entire county’.
Large attendance at Westport Tidy Towns AGM
The people of Westport were happy to be described as residents of the tidiest town in Ireland on three occasions during the noughties, and judging by the large attendance at last night’s annual general meeting, more success could be in the offing. Chairperson of the committee, Pamela Flanagan, said everyone involved was ‘100 per cent committed’ to regaining the crown, last won in 2008.
Mary’s ease past Sacred Heart in Connacht soccer final
St Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina won the Umbro FAI Schools Junior (U-16) Girls Connacht Final at Milebush Park on Thursday. The north Mayo side beat a game Sacred Heart School, Westport 4-0, with goals from Sarah Rowe (two), Chelsea Forde and substitute Laura Daire.
