Former TD John Carty seeks DΡil nomination; All-Ireland final for GMIT Letterfrack; ‘Stars in our Bars’ talent competition
John Carty wants DΡil return
Former Fianna FΡil TD, John Carty, has confirmed that he is to seek a nomination from the party to run in the next General Election. The Knock native lost his seat in the last General Election and has since been elected to the Seanad but this week the former Mayo County Councillor has admitted he feels he can achieve more as a TD and wants another shot at being a member of DΡil Éireann.
Mayo players to contest colleges All-Ireland Final
GMIT Letterfrack this weekend contest the All-Ireland Colleges Corn McGleinn Final, as part of the Sigerson Colleges Football Finals in Maynooth. John McGuinness of Ballintubber, Colm Maye from Charlestown and Colm Caulfield from Knock are part of the GMIT side who will face Blanchardstown IT on Saturday morning at 11am.
Mayo’s ‘Stars of Our Bars’ gets underway
The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland ‘Stars of our Bars’ talent competition, in association with Smithwicks, has got off to a flying start this week with aspiring stars queuing at the doors of pubs across Mayo to showcase their talents. In The Broken Jug, O'Rahilly Street, Ballina, Grace O'Neill, singing ‘Heaven help my heart’ and Danielle Hunt singing ‘Footprints in the sand’ progressed to round two. Two performers from each pub will qualify for the final. A full list of participating pubs can be found at www.vfi.ie.
