Veronica Mannion shares her tips for losing weight and keeping it off during the winter months.
Losing weight for the winter
Veronica Mannion
We all had good intentions to eat well and keep active this summer, but many found the opposite happened. The weather here in Mayo was a washout, hardly conducive to outdoor exercise – but that didn’t mean no ice-creams! So here we are back at square one. The pounds have piled on, and out come the larger sized clothes that you refused to throw away. So where do we go from here? Here are a few tips that are helping me get the pounds off.
Start the morning with a pint or glass of warm/hot water with a slice of lemon or an herbal tea. If you start the day good, you’re more likely to be good for the rest of the day.
If you are having breakfast like porridge measure it and also try to include a protein. Scramble eggs is a great source of protein.
Instead of using butter add a triangle of low fat soft cheese – it’s low in calories and high in protein.
A snack is a small light meal not to be confused with your main meals. For early morning snack cut up an apple and pear and add a yogurt. In the afternoon have a bowl of homemade soup or a packet of low fat soup and a pint of hot water with a slice of lemon. Remember the signal for hunger is the same for thirst.
If you have time exercise twice in the day, get that walk in after you dropped the kids off from school or go for a quick walk for your ten o’clock break. Exercise every day; don’t put it off until the weekend.
Remember have a plan and stick to it, you never know what you can achieve.
