Chambers ‘proud and honoured’ to join FF ticket

LISA Chambers (pictured), a 24-year-old from Ballyheane near Castlebar, was last week surprisingly added to the Fianna FΡil ticket for Mayo, and she got a taste of political life when she urged voters in north Mayo at Dara Calleary’s launch to support her campaign for election to DΡil Eireann.
Speaking at the launch, the youngest Fianna FΡil candidate in the country, told the party faithful she was ‘proud and honoured’ to be a candidate for the party.
The 24-year-old trainee barrister described herself as ‘living proof’ of the economic good times. “I am standing before you as an educated person, who has had the opportunity and priviledge of that and I attribute that to Fianna Fail,” she said.
She also described the party as the ‘only party with an honest and viable plan for economic recovery’.
Minister Calleary paid tribute to his running mate and urged voters to remember her on polling day. “A lot of people didn’t want to take up the gauntlet but Lisa Chambers has taken it up. She is no shrinking violet and will relish this challenge,” he said.
Ms Chambers is the Chairperson of the Fianna FΡil Castlebar Town Cumann and is the first female to hold that position.

A final year student in King’s Inn in Dublin, Ms Chambers also has a Diploma in Management Skills as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws graduate from NUI Galway. She also has a Master of Laws from University College Dublin.
Her CV also includes her promotion to the rank of Corporal in the Reserve Defence Forces which she has been a member for the last eight years. She is also on the grinds register in NUIG and UCD and has been giving grinds in law for the past two years. Ms Chambers will officially launch her campaign in Castlebar this Wednesday. The young barrister is a past student of St Joseph’s Secondary School in Castlebar, and her alma mater will be one of her first ports of call after her launch at the Welcome Inn Hotel on Wednesday morning at 10am. The Minister for Social Protection, Eamon Ó Cuiv, will perform at the launch.
