Masterplan for Westport House hopes to attract 400,000 visitors annually

An extremely ambitious masterplan for Westport House and Demense was unveiled at a meeting of Westport Town Council last night.
The plan, which has been in the making for some six years, aims to attract 400,000 visitors to Westport annually and aims to create 100 jobs directly, with considerable spin-off. The plan will also see in the region of 290 new residential units built in the environs of Westport House.
The plan was greeted with general optimism by the councillors present although some expressed concern over the length of time the project is likely to take.
The plan will also see a road connect the Quay area of Westport with the Newport Road side of the town for the very first time. See next week’s Mayo News for full details


Shannon Development aim to create over 300 jobs at Knock airport

Ireland West Airport Knock has today announced that a Government led feasibility study into the establishment of an Enterprise Park at the airport aims to initially create 300 jobs.  The study will be conducted by Shannon Development and the findings will be submitted to the Minister in September of this year.


Giantkillers Partry pull off major shock in Connacht Gold Cup

Partry Athletic pulled off a big shock in round three of the Connacht Gold Cup on Thursday night, beating Westport United 2-1 after extra time. Ballinrobe native Kevin Murphy netted the winner in the 99th minute.
