St Michael’s Church, Ballina, is hosting a night of classics from opera, musical theatre and Irish song with David Lynn and Friends on Sunday, July 21, at 7.30pm.
Ballina native David Lynn was named Northern Ireland Opera Young Artist 2015/16, a Les Azuriales Young Artist 2017, and has worked with Wide Open Opera, English Touring Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera Theatre Company and Opera North. Core roles include Ferrando Cosi Fan Tutte, Fenton Falstaff Flute A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Quint The Turn of the Screw, Alfredo La Traviata and Pang Turandot. He has also been an Alvarez Young Artist with Garsington Opera 2018, appearing in Capriccio, Falstaff and Magic Flute, covering the role of Fenton Falstaff and singing 3rd Diener Capriccio.
Since Covid, David has settled back to Mayo and established the Lynn Academy of Music, a hub for music education and performing arts in North Mayo, with currently over 100 children and young people engaged.
For the Ballina performance, Lynn will be joined by joined by Rachel Croash and Rory Musgrave, and accompanied by Adam McDonagh.
Rachel has sung at Áras an Uachtaráin for the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, and as guest soloist for the televised National Commemoration Day Service at Collins Barrracks. She has appeared with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in RTÉ’s ‘Carols from Dublin Castle’ and ‘Christmas’ with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
Rory Musgrave recently made his international operatic debut singing the role of Young Kelvin in the Asian premier of Solaris by Dai Fugikura (Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Japan). Other recent roles include Dr. Falke Die Fledermaus (Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Germany), Schaunard La bohème (Lyric Opera Productions & Boyle Arts Festival), Le Podestat Le Docteur Miracle (Wexford Festival Opera/The Merrion Hotel), Silvio Pagliacci (Cork Opera House), Mayor of Youghal Vagabones (Opera Collective Ireland – World Premier, National Tour), Taddeo L’italiana in Algeri (Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, formerly Lismore Opera Festival) and Eumete The Return of Ulysses (Opera Collective Ireland).
Adam McDonagh is a Samling Artist and has been awarded the Michael McNamara Gold Medal (DIT Conservatory), the Robert Gardiner Memorial Scholarship (Cambridge University), and, most recently, First Prize in the Feis Ceoil Orchestral Conducting competition, which includes conducting the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for a RTÉ Lyric FM recording.
This coming September, Adam will begin his training as a Young Artist on the Global Talent Programme at the National Opera Studio (NOS), London.
