HEALTH: Freedom and feeling well

In her 'Five to Flourish' series, Lorelei Logan sets out changes designed to boost happiness and wellbeing that can be introduced to five aspects of our lives.

HEALTH: Freedom and feeling well

Often times when we perceive that there is a problem in our physical body, we seek out a tangible solution. Ironically, it is quite common to find emotional ties to our physical ailments, so seeking out solutions to shift our emotional energy can put us on a healing path and support ourselves in feeling well in mind and body. Freeing ourselves from those ties can help us feel healthier and happier in ourselves.

Sleep
A significant deterrent from sound sleep is racing thoughts of resentment. When we replay past problematic scenarios in our head before bed, it is nearly impossible to fall asleep.
An incredibly helpful tool to ease negative emotion and quiet the mind is guided meditation. To find a guided sleep meditation, focused on letting go, is as simple as giving it a Google.

Hydration
Incorporating calming herbs into our hydration routine can often calm the mind and relax the body, helping us to let go of what no longer serves us.
Simply switching from a caffeinated tea to a blend of lavender and chamomile can help us to feel supported in relaxing and releasing.

Nutrition
Green vegetables are associated with having a calming effect on the body, and not surprisingly, green is the color of the energy center of the heart in the Chakra system.
To bring more love and compassion to your heart, nourish your physical self with the likes of green beans, cucumbers, broccoli and spinach, and feel the soothing shift in mind and body.

Physical activity
Carrying the weight of emotions like resentment can feel like pushing a boulder uphill with each step we take, every day. So, engaging in physical activities that encourage release can be really helpful.
Cardiovascular activity, like dancing, swimming and brisk walking in place are great examples of releasing exercises that can be done indoors, all year-round.

Stress management
One of the most common sources of emotional stress, that can cause physical illness, is a lack of forgiveness. When we hold onto resentment of others, or continually resent ourselves for allowing hurtful words and behaviors from others, that inflammatory state of mind can cause inflammation in the body as well. So, to soothe inflammation in the body, seek out self compassion.
When we forgive ourselves for accepting anything less than love, we create the space for health and healing. We do not need to forgive others for hurtful words and behaviors, but rather we get to let go of any heavy emotion towards them that can hurt our own mind and body. Forgive any past version of yourself that accepted anything less than kindness from others, and allow that energy to serve your health and highest good, while accepting only love and compassion to into your life.
