Weekend Warrior to be staged in Castlebar

CULTURE Tony Doyle’s drama ‘Weekend Warrior’ will be staged at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on January 23

‘ASTONISHING’ Tony Doyle stars in his one-man play, Weekend Warrior.

Rise Productions theatre company is staging its tour-de-force drama ‘Weekend Warrior’ at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, January 23, at 8pm.
Central character Wayne drinks, does drugs and gets into fights – but he reckons it’s grand because he doesn’t get arrested or bring trouble to the door. Once he sorts out what he wants to do with his life, he’ll be fine, he thinks.
Written and performed by Tony Doyle, ‘Weekend Warrior’ is a one-man show that explores binge-drinking, mental-health issues, toxic masculinity and how to define yourself in the 21st century. Ultimately it is a story about hope and community, with a lot of comedy as well.
Reviewing ‘Weekend Warrior’, Brendan Boland, Dublin Theatre Addict, wrote: “Tony Doyle’s writing is brilliant, his performance astonishing.” The play went down a storm at the Dublin Fringe Festival last September, and it was staged in Dublin’s Civic Theatre earlier this month as part of the First Fortnight Festival.
The hour-long show is directed by Aonghus Óg McAnally and produced by Joe Murphy.

Tickets for ‘Weekend Warrior’ (€16/€14) are available from the Linenhall Arts Centre box office at 094 9023733 or online at www.thelinenhall.com. Suitable for audiences aged 15 or over.
