Westport-born singer-songwriter Billy Clarke will launch his much-anticipated debut album, ‘Wreckage From The Sea’, in the intimate surroundings of The Creel Restaurant at Westport Quay on Friday, November 1.
The album draws on a catalogue of songs that Clarke has penned over the last decade, and he describes the collection as ‘a reflection of his own personal journey of moving through grief, addiction and loss to a place of salvation and love’.
“These songs needed to be written, therefore they need to be sung and then left on the shore,” Clarke explains.
While listeners will detect the influences of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake in his music, Clarke says the sound and feeling of the album are more coloured by the lo-fi sounds of Elliot Smith and Damien Rice.
The talented singer-songwriter will play a selection of dates in the coming months before going back into the studio to record his second album. “If my experiences have taught me one thing it is this: Life is too short and too fragile to stand in the shadows; go out and sing your song whatever that song may be.”

Doors open at 8pm; admission €10.
