Recently crowned world champion Irish dancer Colm Conneely will be in Mayo for a once-off performance tomorrow night (Wednesday), June 17, to help launch the summer season of the acclaimed Mayo traditional music and dance show ‘The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol’ at Westport Town Hall.
Conneely has performed across the globe in the past year, taking in Boston, Sydney, Manchester and Montreal in a glittering dancing career that many say mirrors the magnificent Michael Flatley.
The past few weeks and months have being a roller-coaster for me,” Conneely said ahead of his Mayo visit. I am really looking forward to performing in the show on June 17, as Grace O’Malley or the Pirate Queen was an inspiration to so many people along the west coast of Ireland. This show is also regarded as one of the best in the country, full of passion and energy, and that really excites me,” he added.
Meanwhile, the show’s producer Pierce O’Reilly said the entire cast is delighted and excited to be performing with the champion dancer.  “Colm Conneely is an amazing performer and one of the best young talents the country has ever seen. We wanted to do something extra special for the opening night at Westport Town Hall, and I think Colm’s energy and passion will leave people screaming for more,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Conneely, who has also won the Irish and British dancing championships, will be performing a unique dance based on a maritime theme, befitting a show about GrΡinne Mhoal. Colm will be joined by a star-studded line up of musicians, singers and dancers from across Mayo, including Michael and Sinéad Healy, Stephen Doherty, David Doocey, Shane McGowan, Liam Scanlon, James Kilbane and Monica Brennan.
The GrΡinne Mhaol show, which relives the journey of the Irish legend GrΡinne Mhaol, is now in its seventh season. It runs every Sunday and Wednesday evening at Westport Town Hall until the end of September.
