My oh my – David Gray to play in Westport
The Westport Festival of Music and Food has announced that David Gray, Ireland’s best-selling artist of all time, will headline at the two-day festival along with Bryan Adams. David Gray will perform at Westport House on Saturday, June 28.
David Gray, originally from Cheshire, was adopted by Ireland in 2000 when his monumental album ‘White Ladder’ was number one for six weeks, and became the bestselling album ever in Ireland. The album also went to No 1 in the UK Albums Chart, two years and five months after its original release, and spent a total of 151 weeks on the chart. Songs such as ‘Sail Away’, ‘My Oh My’ and his arguably most successful song ‘This Year’s Love’ have become era-defining anthems garnering the singer a special place in the hearts of Irish music lovers.
Since then, he has released six albums, including the critically aclaimed ‘Life in Slow Motion’ (2005) and a greatest hits collection in 2007. His last album, ‘Foundling’ was released in 2010.
Gray has achieved over 12 million album sales worldwide, won two Ivor Novellos, a Q Award and received BAFTA nomination for his soundtrack work on Amma Assante’s 2004 film ‘A Way Of Life’, as well as two Brit nominations and a Grammy nomination.
Ahead of the release of his much-anticipated new album later this year, he gave his Irish fans the opportunity to hear some of his new songs when he toured intimate venues around Ireland before Christmas and filmed with ‘Other Voices’ in Dingle.
