The Emigrants’ Farewell returns

A show that enthralled audiences on both sides of the Atlantic last year has been confirmed to play the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Friday, April 19.
The Emigrants’ Farewell, a ‘born and bred’ County Mayo show, features the best of Irish music, song, dance and culture, and has received rave reviews following performances in Mayo, Manchester, Pittsfield, Berkshire County and Boston.
“We are very happy to be putting ‘The Emigrants’ Farewell’ on in Mayo’s county town, particularly given the emphasis this year on people visiting the county for The Gathering,” said Sheila Moffatt of Atlantic Rhythm Productions, which is producing and staging the show.
Sheila, who runs the multi-decorated Moffatt School of Dancing, created the show last year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Featuring a cast of over 30 performers, it is set in the fictional home of Mick and Madge Canavan on the eve of the departure of their four young children for the USA on board the SMS Titanic. It is a genuine ‘American wake’ with music, song, dance and a cúpla focail. A ‘twist in the tale’ lends a real air of drama to the proceedings. Special guest will be Christina Lynn.

The Emigrants’ Farewell’ will be staged at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on April 19 at 8pm. For tickets, call 094 9023111 or 0818 300 000, or visit www.royaltheatre.ie.
