First solo exhibition by Ballycroy artist opens in Westport
‘Landscapes: Real and Imagined’, an exhibition of limited-edition prints by Dominic Lloyd, an artist living in Ballycroy, will be officially opened at Greenway Gallery, Lower James Street, Westport, on July 21 between 5pm and 8pm. Dominic often uses very simple blocks of colour doing lots of the work on a computer, but the results are far from the dry images that idea might conjure up. Instead the work is full of warmth and humour. In this exhibition his work is shown in two rooms. The first is dedicated to real landscapes, intimate snapshots of Ballycroy, the artist delighting in the simplicity of an old barn or tractor or his neighbour’s cows. These are shown alongside grander landscapes of Croagh Patrick. There are also what look like abstracts, but turn out to be studies of shoreline rocks covered in lichen. The second room sees a complete change: Here the first images you see are of an imaginary land where everything is powered by sail, with each image telling of some strange detail or design of boat or train employed by its people. The rest of the room is given over to a series of strikingly simple abstracts. These subtle prints offer a space for reflection and calm.
‘Landscapes: Real and Imagined’ runs in Greenway Gallery until August 16. The gallery is open from 10am to 7pm.
