John Hoban will play in Charlestown Arts Centre on December 1 as part of the centre’s ‘Singer-Songwriter’ series
Charlestown Arts Centre hosts John Hoban
Henry McGlade
John Hoban will play in Charlestown Arts Centre on Thursday, December 1, at 8pm as part of the centre’s ‘Singer-Songwriter’ series. A native of Castlebar, Hoban is a composer, singer, musician and author who has played and taught music all his life in the troubadour tradition. Hoban combines the best of the Irish tradition with an intimate, warm and raw sensibility that is his own. He is an accomplished player of the fiddle, banjo, whistle and mandocello, and is highly regarded nationally and internationally for the unique and deeply personal nature of his music. He has recorded solo song and instrumental CDs, and has performed on many collaborative recordings. Hoban is a collector of all types of music, stories and folklore and is renowned as a gifted teacher who has developed a unique approach to art and music teaching for all ages. His music bridges the worlds of improvisation, experimentation and tradition. A simple man unfettered by much of the clutter we deem so important in modern society, his music brings us back to the source and his performances show a deep respect for the social contexts in which music was played for generations.
For tickets to John Hoban’s performance at Charlestown Arts Centre (€12, concessions €10) call 094 92255812 or 086 8202883, or email charletownartscentre@gmail.com.
