Minister Dara Calleary confirms the Ballina minor injuries unit is set to become operational in Quarter 2 of 2026
The Minor Injuries Unit in Ballina is set to become operational in the second quarter of 2026, according to an update from Minister Dara Calleary.
The Mayo TD said he had received confirmation from the Health Service Executive (HSE) that the facility in Ballina will open and begin treating patients during Quarter 2 of this year.
Recruitment for staff positions has already progressed, with interviews completed and letters of offer issued. Panels are also currently being compiled as part of the staffing process.
When operational, the Minor Injuries Unit will operate seven days a week for 12 hours per day, in line with the national model for such services.

Patients will be able to attend the unit through GP referral or by referring themselves.
The unit will treat a range of non-life-threatening injuries including broken bones, cuts, burns and soft tissue injuries.
The development represents an important step forward in improving local access to urgent care services in north Mayo and reducing pressure on emergency departments in the region.
