Two Mayo siblings have found their children’s books sharing shelf space in a Westport bookshop.

Anne and Liam Printer, originally from Mayo, now both have titles stocked side by side in Seamus Duffy’s The Bookshop in Westport.

Anne Printer’s books focus on nature and biodiversity, particularly Irish native trees. Aimed at children aged two to six, her debut title, ‘Ollen the Oak Tree’, tells the story of an Irish oak tree who feels lonely despite living in a busy woodland, until the arrival of a new owl brings companionship. The book was longlisted for last year’s CAP Awards and features on the Children’s Books of Mayo Map.

Her second book, ‘Higgle the Holly Tree’, was released in December. It follows a baby hedgehog who ventures alone into the forest before realising he must rely on Higgle the Holly Tree for safety and shelter. Like her first publication, the story introduces young readers to elements of Ireland’s natural environment.

Liam Printer’s debut, ‘Captain Super Sleep’, follows the challenges familiar to many new parents: sleepless nights. The 24-page board book, aimed at children aged one to four, centres on SuzZzie Dormir, a character who gains special powers the more she sleeps through the night. Featuring bright illustrations, the book is designed to engage young readers while promoting healthy sleep habits.

All of Anne and Liam Printer’s books are currently available in bookshops in Westport and Castlebar.
