Ireland West Airport Knock is carrying out a major emergency exercise on-site today (Tuesday, January 27), as part of routine safety and preparedness training. Passengers and members of the public have been advised in advance that the activity is a planned drill designed to test the readiness of airport staff and partner emergency agencies in responding to a major incident.

The exercise will involve simulated emergency scenarios, which may include the presence of emergency vehicles, personnel and visible smoke in and around the airport grounds.

Airport officials have stressed that normal operations will continue throughout the exercise. Flight schedules will not be affected, and passengers can expect the airport to operate as usual.

In a statement, Ireland West Airport said: “We would like to advise passengers and members of the public that Ireland West Airport will be conducting a Major Emergency Exercise on-site at the airport today. This exercise tests the readiness of the airport and other agency teams to respond to a major incident. Flight schedules will not be affected as a result of the exercise, and the airport will operate as normal for passengers.”

Members of the public are being asked not to be concerned if they see emergency activity at the airport during the day, as all activity forms part of the planned training exercise.
