Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD has said he is hopeful of progress following discussions on site selection for a new IDA (Industrial Development Authority) building in Castlebar this week.

The Fine Gael general election candidate urged the IDA to progress to planning following site selection for the new Advanced Building Solution in Castlebar.

Minister Dillon explained: “Plans were announced in 2021 for the delivery of an Advanced Building Solution in Castlebar as part of a key strategic objective under the IDA’s ‘Driving Recovery and Sustainable Growth 2021-2024”

The delivery of 19 Advanced Building Solutions (ABS) across six regions in 16 locations were planned, of which eight are now complete.

Recently, Fianna Fáil senator, Lisa Chambers called on the IDA to purchase a large-scale site in Mayo as a strategic move to attract new industries and investment into the region.

Minister Dillon is hopeful the issue of the selection process ‘will soon be resolved, and the project can then progress to the planning stage’.

“Over the past three years, I have consistently called on the IDA and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to speed up this process to ensure that the Castlebar project moves to design and planning as soon as possible, and that construction of this strategically important building commences soon after,” concluded Minister Dillon.
