The ATU Mayo campus in Castlebar.
Mayo Fine Gael TD Michael Ring has welcomed the announcement that funding of €19,600,000 is being allocated under TU Rise Programme to the Atlantic Technological University.
TU RISE (Research and Innovation Supporting Enterprise) is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Southern, Eastern snf Midland and the Northern & Western Regional Programmes, 2021-27.
This funding programme will establish, equip and staff regional research and innovation offices within the regionally based TUs to enable more impactful engagement with local and regional business, industry and enterprise stakeholders. ATU consists of nine different campuses in the counties of Galway, Sligo, Donegal and the Castlebar campus in Mayo.
The funding is further directed at developing research through human capital in terms of staff development, recruitment, postgraduate training and supervision, networking, and collaborative knowledge-transfer and mobility schemes.
“The funding to ATU will boost regional entrepreneurship by enhancing the role of ATU for enterprise and for regional growth, along the Western seaboard.
“ATU is uniquely placed to link with local and regional enterprises, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises, in Mayo, Galway, Sligo and Donegal and ATU can support these businesses to turn innovation opportunities into everyday business life,” concluded Deputy Ring.
