A total of 3,008 houses have been built in Mayo since 2016, including 525 last year.
The Department of Housing confirmed that the number of houses built in Mayo last year was the highest recorded since 2008.
This comes despite house prices having risen by between 10 and 15 percent since 2021, according to the latest Sunday Times Property Guide.
A total of 32,695 new houses were completed in 2023, 10 percent higher than in 2022 and exceeding the Government’s Housing for All’s 2023 target of 29,000.
Mayo Fine Gael TD Michael Ring said that the figures showed that the Housing for All plan was ‘working’, stating: “Today’s housing completion figures demonstrate what we can see happening around us in Mayo, that more houses are coming on the market. But behind these figures are the people, individuals, couples and families, who now own their own homes.”
The average listed price of a house in Mayo in Q4 of 2023, was €212,849, according to the latest Daft.ie research.
Westport remains the most expensive part of the county to buy house, with median house prices reaching €297,000.
However, some houses in the Westport area have been selling for over €400,000, with one new four-bedroom house recently selling for €520,000.
