Mountains of support is being shown for a Clonbur woman who is undergoing treatment for liver cancer in Germany.

Geraldine Feerick, who has strong Mayo links through football and education, is undergoing treatment at present.

The fundraising page ‘Friends of Ger’, explains Ger's original oesophageal cancer diagnosis came in December 2021, following treatment for which she was expected to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, in January 2023, secondary cancer was discovered in her liver. Despite 12 months of intense chemotherapy in Ireland, the cancer has spread in the liver and additional treatment abroad was required.

Now, Ger travels to Germany for transarterial chemoembolisation in the University Hospital in Frankfurt, which will also be followed by other procedures as necessary in Frankfurt. Alongside this, she is attending Rochdale Positive IV Clinic in the UK for infusions to strengthen the body after the last 12 months of chemo.

The Friends of Ger fundraiser on iDonate has raised €151,286, well over a thousand euro more than their €150,000 target. The money raised is aimed to give Feerick the best chance of a full recovery.

Mother of two Ger is principal of Cloughbrack NS. She has imprinted in her pupils a love for sport, music and the Irish language.

Ger had quite the underage football career, having represented Galway, Mayo, Colaiste Mhuire in Tourmakeady, The Neale and Cumann Peil Naomh Padraig just to name a few. More recently, she was a selector on the TG4 series ‘Underdog’.

She has had strong connections to Tourmakeady throughout the years as she attended Coláiste Mhuire secondary school. Ger also worked as a teacher in Treenlaur NS for a period of time.

This part of Ger's journey will be ongoing for some time and will be very expensive. The support and money raised will be a huge help for her recovery.
