Senator Lisa Chambers.
Mayo Senator Lisa Chambers has welcomed the announcement by Minister of State, Jack Chambers, TD, in the Department of Transport of €1,869,947 million in direct exchequer funding for Ireland West Airport Knock.
“This operational funding is being administered under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025,” said Senator Chambers. “The funding provides targeted support for vital safety and security operations at the airport such as air traffic control, fire services and security, ensuring the airport can continue to remain compliant with regulatory requirements in these areas. These supports are essential to allow the airport to continue to thrive and grow and to support our regional economy."
“This funding brings investment by government in Ireland West Airport Knock this year to a total of €6,869,488, including a previous capital allocation of €5,000,541. This level of funding has been fundamental to the strong return to vital connectivity into the region and a rebound in passenger traffic following the pandemic period.
“Connectivity with Mayo and the Western Region to the rest of the world is essential for our continued economic development, attracting and sustaining foreign direct investment, facilitating tourism while also keeping us connected with family and friends abroad."
