THREE East Mayo communities are vying for glory at the IPB Pride of Place Awards which takes place on this coming Friday, November 10.
The three nominees from Mayo County Council are: (1) Aghamore in Category 1 for populations of less than 500 people; (2) The Butterfly Garden, Swinford in Category 7 (Community Wellbeing Initiatives) and (3) Ballyhaunis Language Café in Category 5 (Communities Welcoming New Communities).
Belcarra Community Group and Ballina Lions Club in won overall Pride of Place awards in 2020, with Ballina Community Clean Up (2021) and Achill Community Tourism (2022) also achieving Runner-Up in their category in recent years.
Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Loftus wished the three Mayo projects up for awards the best of luck.
“I’m delighted to see three Mayo projects being shortlisted for the IPB Pride of Place Awards,” said Cllr Loftus.
“The work done by these three groups and communities all over the county in showcasing their local areas in the best possible light and the pride they take in their efforts to do so adds great value to our county.”
Deirdre Finnerty, Head of Community Engagement on Pride of Place added: “It is a wonderful competition which showcases and highlights best practices in communities throughout Mayo. Pride of Place is a way of acknowledging work carried out by our community groups and we wish the participating groups in Pride of Place 2023 continued success.”
IPB Pride of Place Competition in association with Co-operation Ireland, is an all-island competition organised by Co-operation Ireland and the Local Authorities. The purpose of the competition is to acknowledge the work being done every day by communities all over the island of Ireland.
The winners will be announced at the Pride of Place awards ceremony, which is being held this Friday, November 10. The event is being hosted by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in the Armagh City Hotel.
