Planned escalation of industrial action in local authorities deferred

A planned escalation of industrial action by members of Fórsa trade union, due to commence from midnight last night at local authorities including Mayo County Council, has been deferred in order to facilitate talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on Monday, next September 26.

In a communication to members issued yesterday evening (Thursday), Fórsa national secretary Richy Carrothers said Fórsa and the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) are to return to the WRC on Monday, to engage in discussions about the current dispute over job evaluation.

He said: “The planned escalation of industrial action, namely the 24-hour email ban due to take place on Friday, September 22 and the 48- hour phone ban, due to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next, September 26 and 27, is now paused.

“However, the ongoing ban on non-statutory political representations continues,” he said.
