Sixteen Mayo Parent and Toddler Groups receive funding

Parent and Toddler Group Funding

Mayo TD Michael Ring, TD welcomed funding for 16 Parent and Toddler Groups in Co Mayo

FUNDING of over €15,000 allocated to 16 Parent and Toddler Groups in Mayo have been welcomed by local Oireachtas members.

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth allocated €15,332 to 16 Parent and Toddler Groups in Mayo under the Parent and Toddler Grant Initiative 2023.

Mayo's County Childcare Committee will work directly with Parent and Toddler Groups in the county to administer the funding.

This year, the emphasis of the Parent and Toddler Grant Initiative was on supporting Parent and Toddler Groups that offer a welcome to families who are newly arrived in Ireland and particularly to families from Ukraine.

The announcement was welcomed by local TD Michael Ring and Senator Lisa Chambers who both said that support for parent and toddler groups in the county is vital for both parents and children.

“Parent and Toddler groups in Mayo provide informal support to parents, grandparents and childminders, as well as to young children,” said Deputy Ring.

“They can be a vital social connection for new parents or for people new to the locality and bonds and friendships can be formed between families that can continue into the child’s formative years in school.

“Toddler groups are a great way for preschool children to socialise, meet new children, learn to interact with others and most importantly have fun and I welcome this funding for the groups in Mayo providing this important service in our communities,” concluded Deputy Ring.

Fianna Fáil Senator, Lisa Chambers also welcomed the approval of €15,332 in funding saying it will be a great support for families in the county.

“Mayo Parent and Toddler Groups provide essential informal support to parents, grandparents and childminders, as well as to young children. These groups are an important source of social contact especially for new parents and families new to the county.

“This funding will help the groups continue to offer these vital services to families in Mayo,” Senator Chambers concluded.
