Over 120 people are expected to attend a public meeting in Swinford this evening (Wednesday) to discuss controversial proposals for a biogas plant in the area.
Concerns have been expressed locally about the such a facility, which has already been rejected for planning permission by Mayo County Council.
Speaking to Mayo Live, Swinford Biogas Concern Group Chairperson Moira Philbin said increased traffic was the main concern among locals, its proximity to the houses and the impact on the environment and biodiversity.
She added that the the group were 'not against biogas in any way, shape or form'
Moy Valley Biogas were refused planning permission last year for the facility, which is proposed to be located adjacent to the old Swinford dump site in the townland of Lislackagh.
Former county councillor Michael Smyth and ex-Mayo footballer Pat Harte are among the directors of the company.
The official website for Moy Valley Biogas states that it intends to produce gas from a locally grown multi-sward crop.
The meeting to discuss the proposed plant will take place in The Gateway Hotel at 8pm.
