Scan confirms Kilcoyne’s fears

Injury jinxed Mayo forward Aidan Kilcoyne hopes to be back in action in time for the Connacht SFC semi-final against Galway on June 27 — providing his team-mates can get there.
Kilcoyne will definitely miss Mayo’s opening championship match against Sligo on Saturday week, June 5, after a scan on Monday last showed that he sustained a ‘grade two’ tear to the medial ligament to his knee.
“Thankfully, the tear is closer to a grade one than a grade three,” the Knockmore forward told The Mayo News. “It should take about five weeks to recover from a tear like that so, with one week behind me already, I’m looking at about another four weeks.
“For the last week I’ve been resting the knee and icing it, but I’m hoping to step it up to bike work and exercises next week. Mary Walsh [Mayo physio] will be helping me with the recovery schedule.”
His club-mate Trevor Howley is John O'Mahony's only other major injury worry. The versatile defender is nursing a hamstring injury.
