Three Mayo teenagers are among the eight people nominated for the No Name Club Host and Hostess of the Year Awards

Three Mayo teenagers are among the eight people nominated for the No Name Club Host and Hostess of the Year Awards. Graham Sweeney from Achill No Name Club (NNC), Niall Walsh from Ballinrobe NNC and Holly McAndrew from Erris NNC are all shortlisted for the 2010 No Name Club Awards. The Awards will take place this Friday, April 10 from 5.30pm at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny City. Achill’s Graham Sweeney is a Leaving Cert student in Scoil Damnhait. His main hobby is surfing which is the area he hopes to pursue his career around. He also plays guitar and drums in his band. Other areas he is interested in are jet skiing, mountain boarding, surfboard making and car restoration. He is also Chairperson of the Greens Committee in his school. Ballinrobe’s Niall Walsh is currently in Transition Year in Ballinrobe Community School. His hobbies include art and design, acting and working with horses and he hopes to study Equine Science with an aspiration to establish a Stud Farm in the future. Niall has won numerous awards for art including competitions in various newspapers. He played the lead role in the Musical Cameo Supertalent competition last year and preparations are well under way for this year’s competition. Erris NNC’s Holly McAndrew is currently a fifth year student in Our Lady’s Secondary School in Belmullet. She enjoys music, singing and playing soccer. Among her numerous achievements are winning an Academic Award last year and also several singing competitions. She is very involved in her club’s Anti- Litter and Road Safety campaigns and is helping out with the new Sports Centre for Erris NNC. The No Name Club is a national voluntary youth organisation founded in 1978 who provide alcohol and drug free events and activities for young people. At present there are over 15,000 young people in over 40 No Name Clubs throughout the country. The No Name Club is funded through the office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs and through the HSE. A total of 1,000 teens from around the country are expected to attend the awards. The eight finalists have qualified from regional finals. The selection process at the National Awards involves private interview, onstage interview and a party piece.
