Delays in consultant appointments - Kenny
FINE Gael leader Enda Kenny has revealed that the process of filling permanent positions for vacant consultant posts at Mayo General Hospital is still ongoing. This is according to information he has received from the Health Service Executive. The positions currently to be filled are Consultant General Surgeon; Consultant Pediatrician; Consultant Histopathologist and Consultant Geriatrician. Locum consultants are currently in place for these positions. “The appointment of the vacant posts of these various Consultant posts has been ongoing for years in some cases and this is a serious source of concern. It is unfair on patients being placed in a position where they are unsure who is their Consultant; furthermore, it is unfair on the people filling these positions as is the uncertainty that surrounds unfilled permanent positions. I hope that the Health Service Executive will expedite the filling of these positions, as soon as possible.”
