Mayo Swine Flu case confirmed
Edwin McGreal
BREAKING NEWS The first case of Swine Flu in Mayo has been confirmed this morning. A pupil from Breaffy National School outside Castlebar is being treated after showing symptoms of the illness during this week. The child, a first class student, was absent from school yesterday (Thursday) and after the case was confirmed, parents who have children in the class received a text message this morning telling them not to send their children to school. They have been told to monitor their children while some parents from other classes have withdrawn their students from the school this morning. The Department of Health says all public health protection measures are being taken and a decision to close the school may be taken shortly. The case brings to sixteen the number of cases of influenza A (H1N1) in Ireland. At this stage the pandemic is being characterised globally as moderate in severity.
