Bucking the recession together

THE gloomy pall of the recession has been overwhelming in recent months – but with no prospect of the economy improving any time soon, The Mayo News is endeavouring to lift the spirits of its readers.
Our usual high standards in news reporting will continue to apply to the many stories of unpalatable economic realities that will emerge in the county in the coming months, but in addition we will be making a special effort to offer some hope, light-heartedness and special offers through our ‘Buck the Recession’ campaign, which starts this week.
In a bid to give something back to our readers and our advertisers in these dark times, we are beginning a new coupons page, through which businesses all over the county will offer our loyal readers discounts, freebies and special offers upon receipt of our coupon. This will give added value to The Mayo News for our readers, while also encouraging them to shop and obtain services through local providers, thus keeping more business in the county.
As well as the coupons, we will continue to run competitions throughout the paper, offering the opportunity of great prizes, to suit all ages and tastes, to readers (see Entertainment and Wellbeing).
In a further antidote to the doom and gloom, we will be bringing you more uplifting, light-hearted and heart-warming stories, as well as tales of businesses, people and promotions that are succeeding in ‘bucking the recession’.
So, wherever you see the distinctive ‘Buck the Recession’ logo on the pages of The Mayo News, you will know that hope is at hand. We may not be able to turn the economy around, but we guarantee that we will brighten up your week.
