A PICTURE taken by Tourmakeady-based photographer Tommy Eibrand is among the many photographs published in a new book for charity, ‘Beyond the Moment – Irish Photojournalism in our Time’. The new book features 240 photos taken over the last 17 years by 77 members of the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland (PPAI). The photographs are of different aspects of Irish social, political, cultural and sporting life and the book includes an introduction by Booker Prize Winner, John Banville. The book will be officially launched today (Tuesday) at the AIB main office in Dublin and all profits from the sale of the book will go to the Irish charity, Fighting Blindness. The photograph by Tommy Eibrand which is featured in the book is captioned ‘Where is the hay?’ and is a photograph of his donkey, ‘Erik’, pictured in deep snow in his garden in Tourmakeady in 1996. “I remembered that day well, they had been awful snow I could not get out of the front door for three full days. It was a great surprise to see ‘Erik’ in the new book and it’s a privilege to be included,” said Tommy on Monday. A photograph taken by Castlebar-based photographer Keith Heneghan of a Shell to Sea protester chained under a van at Bellanaboy also features in the book, while another Shell to Sea photograph by Mayo/Sligo-based photographer Peter Wilcock also appears.
