Cancer care move within a month

CANCER CARE services (diagnostic and surgical) are set to be transferred from Mayo General Hospital (MGH) to University College Hospital Galway (UCHG) by the end of next month, The Mayo News has learned.

THE battle to retain cancer care services in Mayo General Hospital is now a distant memory as sources have revealed to The Mayo News that diagnostic and surgical services are set to be transferred to University College Hospital Galway by the end of next month.
The sources confirmed that the ‘logistical nightmare’ of transferring the services may even be completed by mid-October, as last week Professor Kevin Barry held his final clinic in Ballina.
The new service in Galway will effectively involve MGH staff –  consultants, radiographers and mammographers – travelling up and down to UCHG carrying out the same work they did in Castlebar. The move is part of the Government’s National Cancer Care strategy.
