Familiar faces on the ticket

SITTING Castlebar town councillor Blackie Gavin has confirmed he will contest the town and county council elections after being selected by the Castlebar Town Cumann.
The councillor will put his name forward for both authorities and despite the fact that it is his first run at county level, he is confident of securing the party nomination at the selection convention.
Denis Gallagher Jnr, son of former TD and Government Minister, Denis Snr, who sought a General Election nomination in April 2006 but fell foul to Cllr Frank Chambers at the party selection convention, also looks set to run in the 2009 Local Elections.
Rumours are rife throughout the county that the former garda, who over-saw the 2007 General Election, will throw his hat in the ring.
Asked by The Mayo News would he be running next June, Mr Gallagher said: “I am seriously considering it at this moment in time but that is all I will say on the matter.
