Crimes mar All-Ireland day in Mayo

Gardaí in Mayo are appealing for witnesses to two burglaries in the county on Saturday night, believed to have been the work of the same criminal gang.
There was one burglary in Partry while a second burglary at Cloghans Hill, near Kilmaine, was foiled.
Gardaí believe it was a gang of three who targeted homes in the county because of the strong possibility of people watching the match away from home.
The first incident was at Derrada, Partry at a private home and adjoining office and took place between 8.30pm and 10pm on Saturday night.
A quantity of cash was taken and the burglars cut the phone line and pulled an alarm box off the wall.

The second incident took place at Cloghans Hill, right on the Mayo-Galway border at 10.30pm.
An elderly man was at home asleep when he heard voices outside and called his nephew, who lives nearby. His nephew drove over and a car drove away as soon as he arrived.

Gardaí believe both incidents are connected and are asking for anyone who may have witnessed three males acting suspiciously in either area or driving between Partry and Cloghans Hill between 10pm and 10.30pm to contact gardaí.

Thirteen public order arrests
Meanwhile there were 13 Public Order breaches detected in the county on Saturday, the day of the All-Ireland.
Six of the offences were in Westport and four in Castlebar.
Some of those were arrested while others were dealt with by way of a fine. Those arrested may face prosecution before the courts or may be given the benefit of an adult caution.
Some of the more common breaches of the Public Order Act include being intoxicated in a public place; threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour; and failing to follow the directions of a member of An Garda Siochana.
