Tourmakeady and the surrounding areas are in deep shock today after the body of a young child was recovered from Lough Mask this morning.
A search operation for the five-year-old boy began yesterday evening, after the alarm was raised at around 6.30pm.
The child is understood to have fallen from a dinghy that had drifted from the north-western section of the lake’s shoreline.
The search, which resumed at 5.30am this morning, was led by an Irish Coast Guard helicopter with the support of local gardaí, Civil Defence, Lough Mask Water Rescue and a local dive team.
