€3k worth of ecstasy seized in Westport, €10k worth of illegal cigarettes seized in Bohola

Ecstasy worth approximately €3,000 was seized by gardaí in Westport on Friday after a search of property in the town. The discovery of the drug came two days after 20,000 illegal cigarettes were seized after they were discovered by gardaí in Bohola.
This seizure of the cigarettes took place on Wednesday, April 8 when Claremorris Community Engagement gardaí stopped a car while performing a Covid-19 checkpoint.
When gardaí made enquiries for the purpose of the driver’s movements, the car was subsequently searched and approximately 20,000 cigarettes were located. Gardaí stated that the cigarettes represented an approximate loss to the exchequer of €10,600.
In Westport, a man in his 20s was arrested on Friday, April 10 after he was found with approximately €500 worth of ecstasy after he was stopped and searched by gardaí while on patrol in the Westport area.
A search warrant to search a residence on Mill Street, Westport was obtained and during the course of the search ecstasy powder with an approximate street value of €1,200 was discovered along with €1,300 worth of ecstasy tablets.
The man was arrested and detained at Westport Garda Station where he was later released without charge. All the drugs were sent for analysis and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
