Bodies recovered from Moy and Mweelrea

There was a double tragedy in Mayo last week with a Dublin man dying while climbing Mweelrea mountain, while the body of an English native was retrieved from the River Moy.
Christopher Quinn from Clontarf, Dublin was named as the man who died while climbing Mweelrea on Wednesday afternoon while SeΡn (John) Goodman of Avondale Court, Ballina and formerly of Poole, Dorset, England was named as the person who was recovered from the Moy on Saturday morning.
Mr Quinn was aged in his 60s and was described as an experienced climber and was part of a group who set out to climb Mayo’s highest peak on Wednesday afternoon. Emergency services were alerted by a member of the climbing party and took part in the recovery operation. The body of Mr Quinn was brought to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem took place.
The alarm was raised in Ballina on Saturday morning at approximately 6am following a report that Mr Goodman was missing. The emergency services, which included the Irish Coast Guard and the River Moy Search and Rescue team, attended the scene and the body of Mr Goodman was recovered near St Muredach’s Cathedral.
Mr Goodman (59) is survived by his wife Mary, children and extended family and friends. He was highly regarded in the local community and his funeral Mass will take place today (Tuesday) in St Muredach’s Cathedral, with burial afterwards in Leigue Cemetery.
